In my classroom, you're a respected adult.

You are an adult and should be respected as one.

I see so many specific patterns in students that traverse time and place. As I’ve now taught more advanced level students, I see something that I want to say out loud.

In FUNdamentals, we focus on the structure around how to use your feet. In Intermediate, we start to expand out. Ideally, you’ve been using your feet for awhile and you’re navigating your own professional practice.

And here’s where things get interesting. You’ve workshopped and figured out your space, your clientele, your body mechanics. We professionals often work alone or we become too busy to receive or trade or….practice.

✨Practice. To become a beginner again. Everyday. ✨

Then you come to class and you so desperately want me to fix something in you. (I see it on class evaluations all of the time.) And I do….when it’s appropriate. I would never let you to continue hurting your body. But here’s what I notice…

You have such a hard time accepting that you’re doing…really well.

➡️ And here is another thing that’s very important.

You’re an adult and I will respect you as such in my classroom. (Unless your behavior is not that of an adult… )

That means, I trust that you’re workshopping these issues in your treatment room so that when you end up in a classroom: you’re ready to LEARN.

Classrooms are for expanding and learning. Fixing is what you do in your practice. How are you showing up everyday in your practice? Maybe you need less fixing in class and more beginners mind in your treatment room everyday?

Because everyday, I’m in my practice, I’m fixing myself, improving my approach, tweaking my treatment plans, and listening to my client in a way that helps them but also challenges me to grow.

Join me in my classroom. I’ll respect you as an adult. See you as a person. And encourage you to flourish in your own way.
